There are a few services I provide to my customers, besides doing vehicle restoration. In this section I will explain the different services and pricing.<\/span><\/h1>\n

As of January 1st, 2020 I will charge a 3% fee for customers paying by credit card or PayPal. I need to do this to offset the fees charged by my credit card processor. You always have the option to send me a check or money order, but I cannot ship your items until I receive the payment. I also encourage customers to use <\/span>Venmo (friends) or <\/span>PayPal “Friends & Family” to avoid the extra fees. If your bank offers the <\/span>Zelle payment type, this is a <\/span>direct bank transfer<\/em> and there is no extra fee for this as well. Check with your bank to see if they offer a funds transfer without the extra fee. <\/span><\/h5>\n

1949-54 Chevrolet passenger car Idler Arm rebuild:<\/h2>\n

This is a rebuilt Steering Idler Arm Assembly for 1949-1954 Chevrolet passenger cars with manual steering. If your car has a factory power steering option, you must provide your original idler arm for me to rebuild. Replaces GM# 3691171, 3691173, 3703795<\/p>\n

I am now offering a rebuild service for these idler arms. They are not a rebuild that the average hobbyist should take on. I have been rebuilding these for The Filling Station for the past 10 years or so and the process takes special machines, tooling and knowledge to get rebuilt properly. The simplified explanation of this service is as follows:<\/strong> I take the arm assembly completely apart, replace the ball with a new one, clean and sandblast the parts, then paint the parts. Once this is done, new bushings are pressed in with my hydraulic press. I machine the lands on the frame that holds the bushings on my milling machine to eliminate the previous wear. Then the arm is fitted with a new pin. If the pin on the arm is loose, I hone the arm for an oversize pin and then hone the bushings to match. If a standard size pin can be used (I have a process to determine this<\/em>), I will ream and hone the new bushings to fit the new standard pin then reassemble the arm with the new pin kit and install new grease fittings. The arm is then greased before shipping back to the customer.<\/p>\n

A worn out steering idler arm is the most common steering problem in these cars. To check yours – have someone turn the wheel back and forth while looking at the idler arm. There should be NO up or down movement at all! Check it out – its probably time for yours to be fixed.
\nThese units are sold on an exchange basis.<\/span> Send in your old idler arm and allow 2 weeks. I have a limited supply of cores. If you do not provide a core and I have a rebuilt arm in stock, you will be charged $200.00 additional for a core.<\/strong><\/em> This charge will be refunded when you return your old rebuildable unit. If I don’t have an available rebuilt arm, you will have to send me your core before I can provide this service.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I usually ship USPS Large Flat Rate Box, $22-$25 approx. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This part fits most 1949 1950 1951 1952 1953 1954 Chevrolet Cars; exceptions may apply.<\/p>\n

1947-51 Chevy Truck Door Latches<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

I am currently doing repairs on 1947-51 Chevy truck door latches. This is a major problem in the restoration parts business right now. Seems like no one has a decent reproduction of this latch. The ones out there don’t work well, if at all, so I will take your original latches and rework them to get them operational again… if at all possible.<\/h2>\n

Total for four hinges and all parts is $220.60 + $22.00 USPS Large Flat Rate Box shipping (If you are having less than four hinges rebuilt, it can go into a Medium Flat Rate Box and will be about $18.00 for shipping). <\/strong><\/p>\n

Total price to your door for 4 hinges + shipping is $242.60 (inside the USA)<\/span>. <\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/b>Much of the rebuilding pricing comes from the time it takes to get the hinge apart (which can be a chore), sandblasting the parts, welding repairs, re-drilling & reaming holes, painting (I only do black, or I can leave them in primer if you want to match your body color<\/i>) and reassembly. If you want me to paint them black, I can do gloss, semi-gloss or flat<\/b>. Just let me know your preference.<\/p>\n

If you want me to rebuild your hinges, just send the pieces to my address (37263 Deer Lane, Lebanon, Oregon  97355)<\/strong> and when they are done (1-2 weeks), I can call you for your payment preference before I ship them to you. I take most major credit cards, but I prefer using Zelle (bank transfer), Venmo “Friends & Family” or PayPal “Friends & Family”<\/strong> to avoid the extra 3.5% fee they charge me, or you can send a money order once I know the total costs with shipping. If you are just using a credit card, I will add the extra 3.5% to your invoice. Please let me know in advance<\/em><\/strong> how you intend to pay so I can adjust your invoice if necessary. Once I receive payment, I will ship them VIA USPS Flat Rate Box.<\/p>\n

Please let me know if you are going to ship UPS or postal (UPS\/Fed-Ex is sometimes cheaper but the \u201cUPS Store\u201d can be expensive). Also let me know if you are going to require a signature upon delivery. I ask this because I\u2019m not always home and can miss the delivery person. I live in a rural area where we don\u2019t normally have to worry about theft and they deliver right to my front porch. There\u2019s not much I can do about return shipping costs, but I will only charge the actual<\/span> cost of the shipping back to you plus a small handling fee, and I will ship the most economical way. Flat Rate Priority Mail<\/b> seems to be the most economical and expedient way to ship hinges.<\/p>\n

Reproduction 1947-55 1st Series Chevy Pickup Hinge Faceplates Now Available!!!<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

I now have new faceplates for these hinges. Over the years I have rebuilt many hinges and many of them come in with badly beat up faceplates (some faceplates were even missing sections that I would have to fabricate new pieces for). The only thing I could do is try to flatten them as much as possible and fabricate any missing sections, but I could never get them really straight and flat. Now I will be able to remove the original spot-welded faceplates and install new ones, spot-welded like originals, to make them look new. The price for this will be $14.50<\/strong> per hinge, installed<\/em>. If you are interested in these, let me know. If your faceplates are in good shape, you won\u2019t need them, but just in case you do, they are now available.<\/p>\n

They are easy to install once you get the 6 spot welds in each hinge frame drilled out. You can use the bolt holes to position them and either punch 1\/4″ holes to plug-weld them in or spot-weld them like it was done originally.<\/p>\n

Vent Window Restoration:<\/span><\/strong>\"Vent<\/h1>\n

I can restore most vent windows, trucks, passenger and muscle cars, vans, etc. Just inquire! Prices can vary depending on the vehicle, parts required, chroming, etc. <\/span><\/h4>\n

I charge a base labor rate <\/strong><\/span>of $285.00 ***per pair<\/em><\/b> for most<\/em> vent windows, then parts and return shipping are extra<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. So if you want new handles, glass, rubber, felt channels, chroming, etc., this would be in addition to the $285 labor rate. I always change the felt and rubber, but chroming<\/strong>, handles<\/strong> and glass<\/strong> are optional<\/em>. If you want to change the glass, you may also have tint options (depending on the year, make and model of the vehicle) . Prices apply to most vintage pickups. Muscle cars and vent windows needing special assembly are normally at a higher labor rate.<\/em><\/p>\n

For this price, I completely disassemble the vent assemblies, remove the glass from the frames (in most cases), sandblast all metal non-chrome<\/em> components, prime and paint any parts that were painted originally (some parts didn\u2019t originally have paint, so I do paint them to prevent rust and corrosion in the future), install the new seals, reassemble the frames with factory-type tubular rivets, polish any stainless steel parts, and reinstall glass with new glass-setting tape (either new or your original glass, as you prefer), and install the post felt channels. If the vent frames and trims were originally chromed, having these pieces re-chromed would be extra. I can get a quote on the chrome if needed.<\/p>\n

Regarding paint, because the rising cost of paint, you may have noticed I raised my basic labor rate. I felt this was necessary in order for me to continue providing a quality paint job. I use a PPG Commercial Performance Coatings<\/strong> black paint which is a low gloss catalyzed paint and I’ve had really good success with it but it’s price has increased substantially over the past two years. I include the cost of this paint in my base labor rate.<\/p>\n
